I Sat Amongst the Lawyers (And Lived To Tell About It)

I Sat Amongst the Lawyers (And Lived To Tell About It)

It started off just like any ordinary day at the office. I remember it as if it
was about three ½ weeks ago. I was still getting settled into my new job and
responsibilities as well as my immediate surroundings. I had built up a
friendship with a tribe that called themselves the “Sales Team”. I sat
amongst them and even helped while they all learned many ancient rituals.
One they called “the demonstration” and another was called “making the
sale”.

But then a message came advising all that the village was expanding and that
I would have to move to the other side of the village to make room for the
expansion. I begged and pleaded with the Chiefs not to move me, promising
that I would not get in the way. I told them I would be just fine with the
workers working around me. But the Chiefs explained that it was impossible
but promised the move would only be temporary. So, for the sake of the
village I made the move.

During my journey to the other side of the village, I decided to keep a diary.
I mean a journal. Here are a few excerpts from that journal:

Day 1:
This morning as I set out on my journey to the other side of the
village, I turned to see the faces of the Sales Team. They looked back
at me as if to say, “Why are you leaving us now when there is so
much more work to do”? “I’ll be back soon”, I told them. “I promise.
It’s for the sake of the village”.
As soon as I arrived on the other side of the village, I noticed
immediately how quiet it was. I soon learned that this tribe, the tribe
that called themselves the “Lawyers” were practicing an ancient art
themselves, the ancient art of “Editing”. I settled into my area and
tried my best to keep silent and not to disturb them. Especially since I was unaware of what they were capable of doing. Sure they were a
quite tribe but sometimes those are the ones you have to look out for.

Day 3:
I’m still trying my best to keep silent and not to disturb them.
The Editors, as I’ve started calling them still remain silent, always
writing and reading. When they do speak I can hear them say things
like “Drafting Notes,What’s Market, legal updates, and coding……..”
But mostly they write and read”. Sometimes they go off and huddle in
another part of the village and return. I hear that is where they discuss the sacred documents.

Day 5:
I’m still trying my best to keep silent and not to disturb them.
Sometimes I hear calls from the other side of the village as well as
outside the village. Sometimes the calls are from a village way across
the great ocean. Unfortunately I then have to call out to these people and this disrupts the Editors very much. I try to make my calls as quiet as possible but that has not been working too well.

Day 8:
No word from the Chiefs on the other side of the village. I
hope the expansion is going OK. I hope it’s not too loud for them over
there. Although, the SalesTeam are a loud tribe themselves. I’m sure
they will be alright. This side of the village however, remains quiet.

Day 10:
Some of the Sales Team tribe from the other side of the
village have learned their way over and have come to visit me to ask
for help with their ancient rituals. This too is disruptive to the Editors.
I have asked the members of the Sales Team tribe not to make the
journey over so often but that has not been working too well either.
The Sales Team tribe is quite a persistent tribe. I see their training is
paying off.

Day 16:
It seems I have been making some breakthrough with the
Editor tribe. Sometimes when they are chanting, I will try to
contribute a line or two for their chants. When I do, if I look at them
close enough, I could swear I could see some of them smile. At this
point, I do not know if they are warming up to me or planning their
attack.

Day 17: One of the Editors found my journal while I was away from
my area. I could tell that an Editor had read it because there were
corrections written all over it. The Editor tribe is certainly
perfectionists.

Day 19: News has come that the expansion is almost complete and
that I will be able to move back to the other side of the village soon. I am quite excited to move back but I seem to have grown attached to the Editor tribe. Although they have not quite accepted me as one of their own, I am certain they have decided to call off any planned
attack. I have also heard that a great celebration has been planned for the entire village where all of the tribes will get together to celebrate together.

I realize now that I am very lucky to have had the opportunity to stay
with both tribes. They are both wonderful tribes that contribute so
much to the village and its growth. I feel very lucky to be a member of
the tribe, regardless of where I stay.
